St. Charles Borromeo has a Pastoral Council in place with six regular members and three ex-officio members. Three members rotate off each year, with three new members, appointed by the pastor, after a discernment process, replacing them. The Pastoral Council works to:
- Promote prayer, growth in the faith sharing among themselves and the larger community;
- Plan for the future of the parish, which includes identifying parish needs and evaluating parish programs in light of pastoral needs and obligations of the parish;
- Review, plan and evaluate the pastoral activities of the parish and its ministers, and to set forth practical conclusions concerning them so as to conform the life and actions of the people of God with the Gospel and traditions of the Catholic Church.
St Charles Parish Council
Minutes January 24, 2012 Meeting
Members Present: Father Ken, Pat Sapa, Sara Kohrt, Rayne Beach, Randy Schwickert, Daryl Russell, Sharon Carmichael, Mark Duffy and Chris Zignego
Meeting opened at 7pm with prayer
1. Living Stones follow up parish input session this Sunday following 9:30 Mass. Father asks that all Parish Council members be present to facilitate table discussion. He will also ask the Finance council members to assist.
2. This Sunday will be the first ‘blessing Sunday’ at Mass. The last Sunday of each month those that have celebrated birthdays and/or anniversaries will be blessed and following Mass there will be cake and fellowship in Strom Hall.
3. New Parish Council Members: Two members will be rotating off this coming summer, Rayne and Chris. In May Father would like to have a retreat for prospective new members as a time of discernment regarding serving in this capacity. By May 1st Father would appreciate names of possible new members be submitted to him.
4. Grotto and Meditation area: Father would like to have a grotto and meditation area developed in the courtyard area at the back of the church. This area is fenced and would afford a quiet place for reflection and prayer. Initially he would like to move the St Francis statue out there and then possibly add outdoor Stations of the Cross. The group consensus was that this is a good idea.
5. Stewardship Council: Next meeting to be February 21st. If anyone has ideas for outreach project please get them to Father for this group to discuss.
6. Finance council meets Wednesday, January 25, 2012.
7. Defibrillator: Procuring this item through FEC and their Round up for Safety program is much too complicated. It is felt that the Parish should seek donations for its purpose or just buy one outright. A suggestion was made that we ask for donations in conjunction with Valentine’s Day. No further discussion of this idea occurred.
8. Lent is approaching. Ash Wednesday is Feb 22nd. Masses will be at Noon and 5:30pm. During Lent Stations will be on Fridays at 5:30 pm followed by Lenten Soup suppers. At present these meals are all being taken care of.
9. Reminder about the Pie Social the weekend of Winter Carnival.
Next meeting: Thursday March 8th in Strom Hall at 7pm.
